Separate grant call: Targeted culture grant for the provision of club activities in weighted-curriculum music education

A special grant of 200,000 euros for enhanced music education provided in a comprehensive school in Helsinki for the years 2024–2026 will be opened for public application. The aim of the grant is to provide enhanced music education in accordance with the national core curriculum for basic education for grades 1–9.

The special grant is intended for educational institutions in Helsinki that provide basic art education and organize special music instruction in the form of clubs, which deepens the intensified music education provided in comprehensive schools. The intensified music education is group-based club activity that supports instruction as referred to in Section 47 of the Basic Education Act. The club lessons are integrated into the pupil’s school day, and the instruction is provided by the educators of the service provider receiving the grant.

An annual appropriation of 200,000 euros has been allocated for the period 2024–2026 to support club activities related to intensified music education in a comprehensive school in Helsinki. A decision on the grant has been made, and no new applicants will be accepted for this period.

The grant cannot be awarded for activities that are entirely funded through this grant.

All cultural grants are subject to the strategic guidelines and the general grant terms of the City of Helsinki, as well as the grant allocation principles of the Culture and Leisure Division.

When assessing the activities, attention is paid to how the club activities are integrated into the activities of the comprehensive school, and how this cooperation is integrated into the action plan and curriculum of the comprehensive school. Attention is also paid to the number of hours per week and year, as well as expenses and the number of pupils participating in the service provider’s activities. The assessment also examines the financial prerequisites of the service provider and the service provider’s professional competence, and the expenses related to the management of the activities.

The grants are discretionary.
