Persons reported as trained instructors and coaches on general grant applications must have completed one of the following training courses. Furthermore, they must instruct or coach persons under 20 years of age, persons aged 64 or over or persons belonging to the target group of adaptive sports in the physical activities organised by the association. At least 50 per cent of the participants in the group to be coached must belong to these eligible target groups.

- VOK1 level qualification or higher level VOK qualification

Vocational qualifications
- Initial vocational qualification in education and guidance (children’s instructor or youth and community worker)
- Vocational Qualification in Sports Instruction
- Further Vocational Qualification in Nature-based Services (Wilderness and Nature Guide)
- Vocational qualification in Dance
- Valmentajan ammattitutkinto (further vocational qualification in coaching)
- Specialist Vocational Qualification in Coaching
Higher education degrees
- Physiotherapist (bachelor’s or master’s degree)
- Bachelor's, Master's, Licentiate degree or Doctorate in Education (special education, class teacher, early childhood education teacher, general pedagogy or adult education)
- Sports Instructor (bachelor’s or master’s degree)
- Bachelor's, Master's, Licentiate degree or Doctorate in Exercise and Sport Sciences
- Dance teacher (bachelor’s or master’s degree)
- Bachelor's, Master's, Licentiate degree or Doctorate in Dance
- Bachelor's, Master's, Licentiate degree or Doctorate in Health Sciences
If the association's instructors or coaches have other training suitable for the job, this may also be taken into account at the discretion of the Sports Services.
